BAA wins injunction

Big business wins again

The annoying thing is that they have banned the local group NOTRAG - which comprises all those people severely affected by the third runway and thus would have the highest support.

Re: BAA wins injunction (#1)

This is an appalling decision. When did we lose the right to peaceful protest exactly? And while I'm at it, why has there been such an erosion of our liberties under our own Labour government? If the Tories had proposed half the things we had actually done, the Labour Party would have been mobilising against the government and rightly so.

Re: BAA wins injunction (#5)

Peaceful protests should be designed to have an impact, be sharp  and be effective; so eg the anti-war protestor Brian Haws has no longer any impact, and is jus a boring old nuisance. The anti-BAA protestors would lead to disruption and things could turn nasty due to the anarchists in their midst.

Re: BAA wins injunction (#2)

Update : NOTRAG and its members have been removed from the injunction.  The judge felt it ridiculous that a law-abiding local group should be treated this way :)

Re: BAA wins injunction (#3)

They are only doing what any reasonable organisation would.

It is a fact that many of these organisations have published materials stating their desire to 'blockade' and disrupt the airport.

That simply isn't acceptable.

The consequences of which could cost our country tens of millions of pounds.

The airport has even arranged designated points on its property for the protest.

The injunction concerns the group "Plane Stupid" which has a history of these sorts of protests.

There will be a sensible and sizeable protest still going ahead - and as law abiding citizens we should welcome that.

Re: BAA wins injunction (#4)

Loz, it wasn't reasonable to ban NOTRAG - and the judge thought so too!
