Cameron Hospital List Row - "We're Not Sorry..."
David Cameron has now retracted his apology for claiming that hospitals were under threat of closure or downgrading services when they weren’t. The Tories have said that a “junior researcher” has apologised in error.
The party admitted it had made a mistake by including Altrincham Hospital instead of Trafford.
Cameron said he was standing by the rest, insisting there "at least 29" district hospitals facing cuts to maternity or accident and emergency services.
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust have contacted Cameron's office demanding a correction. They stated that Cameron’s actions had “upset staff”.
Cameron's office "apologised for this error" and said it would "be immediately be rectified". Now the party has said the apology had been sent in error by a junior researcher.
Tom Taylor, chief executive of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, said there was "no threat" to its Wrekin Maternity Unit, despite its being included on the list.
