Equality, but not yet!

I find it surprising that organisations that you might think of having a progressive bent still have difficulty in coming to terms with the idea of equality. At its most basic level you’d think that by now those who organise speakers for public meetings would be aware that some sort of parity between the sexes is appropriate – but apparently not.

The Christian Socialist Movement (CSM) events for Labour Party fringe – 16 men but only 5 women per their magazine.

Progress rally at Labour Party fringe – 5 men but only 1 woman per their website.

It’s not as if I think that every meeting has to be composed 50:50, but the disparity illustrates something worrying – don’t they notice?

It’s as if feminism didn’t happen, or perhaps it’s old hat now.
