Another one bites the dust.... yet another Respect resignation?

If you look at the Tower Hamlets Council web site tonight and check the details for the elected Councillors in Shadwell ward, you will notice that there are now only 2 councillors instead of the 3 listed previously.  Rumour mill has it that Respect Councillor, Shamim Ahmed Chowdhury, (who got the highest vote for diss-respect in the ward) has resigned not only as a Councillor but also as a member of Respect.  There is apparently a “hot” press release out somewhere.

Probably best to check out “TRIAL BY JEORY” in this week's East End Advertiser out Thursday. This is the second Councillor to leave Respect in just over 2 months. Labour Majority on council now 4. A hotly contested by-election in the summer months would seem to be on the cards.

Re: Another one bites the dust.... (#1)

Over the last couple of years I have found the CPGB's Weekly Worker to be a fine source of information on the activities of the non-Labour Marxist left. This http://www.cpgb.org.uk/worker/632/respect.htm is a particularly fine example of the chaos that appears to be Tower Hamlets Respect.

Re: (#2)

In his press release Shamin Choudhury makes specific mention of Militant members who were expelled by the Labour Party. That is a reference to Eileen Short who was expelled for being a member of Militant but ended up as Respect's 'Political Adviser'.
He also refers to the inexperience and immaturity of Respect, its lack of political vision and direction and its inability to answer problems like Housing or Youth provision.
He's not the first to resign and he wont be the last!

"That is a reference to Eileen Short "

She's Clare's sister, right?
