True Colours

Do the colours of Gordon Brown's ties tell us anything about the man himself, his moods, or the policies he is formulating?

Going back a few years, Brown was always a man to wear a good scarlet-red tie, in keeping with the colour of the Labour Party. But then he changed to wearing pink ties, and rumours abounded that this was some sort of odd attempt to 'soften' his image for delicate middle-England types, who might have thought he was Khrushchev in disguise or something like that. Now, though, the colour of choice seems to be light blue- can anything be made of this? A deliberate two-fingered salute to David Cameron? A sign of moderation in policies? Or just the latest fashion statement from Westminster?

Just that he's got a poor tailor.

Re: True Colours (#2)

Blue? Showing his true colours. Brown's a Tory really. Wish he'd just merge New Labour with the Tories once and for all, and leave progressive-minded people to form a party to oppose bosses' self-interests.

Re: True Colours (#3)

"Brown's a Tory really."

Probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever read on this forum - and that's saying something.

Re: True Colours (#4)

This whole discussion is ridiculous. Who cares what politicians wear? Is this what society has come to?

Re: True Colours (#5)

He should wear red and wear it with pride!!!!

Re: True Colours (#12)

I'm betting if a member of the right had said 'Wish he'd just merge New Labour with the Tories once and for all, so that the lefties can f**k off ', you'd be critisising them until the end of time

Re: True Colours (#6)

What next? If your favourite colour isn't red then get out of the party?

Jeez!

Re: True Colours (#7)

I'm quite impressed that a tounge-in-cheek blog I posted in a spare moment has prompted so much feeling. Once again the internet fails me!

Re: True Colours (#8)

That was directed at SocialistAC rather than you.

Re: True Colours (#9)

Turkey's having a snap election, where the ruling party could threaten Turkey's secular tradition, and is threatning to invade Northern Iraq. Floods are sweeping the country because 150 year old draining systems are buckling. 23 South Koreans are being taken hostage in Afghanistan. Doesn't discussing ties seem superficial, and seem idiotic to be discussing?

Re: True Colours (#10)

Post threads about them then...

Re: True Colours (#11)

There seems to be much symbolism in Brown's fashion. He's famed for refusing to wear formal dinner suits when addressing the CBI and other poncey bodies. So blue ties probably are a deliberate attempt at image moderation.

Re: True Colours (#13)

I agree with this analysis.  Am not happy at Sarah for diluting his red ties.  Not happy at all!

Re: True Colours (#14)

IT'S JUST A TIE - NOT AN IDEOLOGY!

Re: True Colours (#15)

You're wrong, Alex, I'm afraid.  Ties, logs, v important.

Check out this excellent piece which really made me think about this stuff: http://blog.jonworth.eu/labour-branding-whats-going-on/
