Re: The Deputies with the Daily Mirror (#1)

I see they awarded Jon Cruddas 10/10 and said he was the Deputy Leader they wished to see.

Re: The Deputies with the Daily Mirror (#2)

A 'panel of Mirror readers'

Are the panel made up of people eligable to vote in the DL election.

Re: The Deputies with the Daily Mirror (#3)

Probably not but I'm sure none of us are so stupid as to forget that the result of this election could help Labour reverse its popularity decline. And this panel would suggest Jon Cruddas is the candidate to do that.

Re: The Deputies with the Daily Mirror (#4)

I'm just saying - how was this panel selected?

If it was self selecting, it's views cannot be taken as representative

Re: The Deputies with the Daily Mirror (#5)

Stop it, Glass House. Such pedanticness doesn't suit you!

Re: The Deputies with the Daily Mirror (#6)

I'm really not being pedantic.

I'm saying that you can never trust a poll in which the members are self selectiing. A randomly sampled poll, properly weighted will always be more accurate - even with a much smaller sample.

See here for why: http://www.physics.smu.edu/~pseudo/Polls/

Re: The Deputies with the Daily Mirror (#7)

And sorry to be pedantic, but there's no such word as "pedanticness".

Pedantry is the word you're after.

Re: The Deputies with the Daily Mirror (#9)

Don't be so silly.

No one is claiming that this is evidence that Jon's going to win the election with 100% of the votes. It is however a good indication that Jon appeals to core Labour voters in a way that other candidates can't

Re: The Deputies with the Daily Mirror (#10)

Can you explain to me why this is "a good indication that Jon appeals to core Labour voters in a way that other candidates can't"?

Re: The Deputies with the Daily Mirror (#12)

It doesn't show that, but it shows that the public want a change from the politician who uses a concoction of rhetoric and spin, and want a politican who actually gives a straight answer. The only other candidate who could possibly do that is Hazel Blears, who is far more down-to-earth than I expected.

Re: The Deputies with the Daily Mirror (#8)

I do wonder whether the way this was edited does justice to Jon Cruddas.

Jon 'won' this debate according to the newspaper and its panel, but I don't think the very short clips shown here show him at his best.

Re: The Deputies with the Daily Mirror (#11)

Could it be that the newspaper and the panel were wrong?

Re: The Deputies with the Daily Mirror (#13)

No, Glass House, they weren't!
