Cabinet opposition to Iraq?

As many may have seen today, Harman has denied the comments she made about Iraq on the Newsnight Debate. I think like many people, in that Harman made these comments for support in the contest. Is there an element of truth in that she had doubts about going to war? And, just out of curiosity, who were the cabinet members hostile to going to war at the time (other than Cook or Short)?

I think (not 100% sure) that Brown was annoyed with the decision but went along with it.

Re: Cabinet opposition to Iraq? (#2)

In the documentary about Blair on C4, Short said Estelle Morris was hostile.

Re: Cabinet opposition to Iraq? (#3)

I guess it depends on if we believe the spin doctor's and former Cabinet Minister's diaries?  If one reads Robin Cook's diaries it does suggest that Iraq was discussed alot at Cabinet and people raising questions included Prescott, Hewitt and Charles Clarke and Clare Short.  Clare Short backed this up in the C4 documentary by saying that the likes of Hewitt, Milburn and Morris raised questions.  But is raising questions the same as opposition?  It's interesting how it's spun that Gordon Brown was 'annoyed' or 'opposed' the decision but 'reluctantly' went along with the decision.  Let's just remember that in Robin Cook's excellent diaries it say's that not once did Gordon Brown raise objections to the war in Cabinet.  It also say's shortly before the vote in the Commons that Brown spoke out in favour of the war in Cabinet supporting Blair.  Remember also that it was Brown who helped to persuade Short to remain in the Cabinet.  Remember that Brown was asked at the last General Election if he would have taken the same decision as Tony Blair over Iraq, his reply 'yes' without hesitation.  Yet despite all this Brown henchmen in the Labour party and the Daily Mirror have tried to protray him as the saviour.  Personally I find his behaviour far more repugnant than those that fully supported the war such as Tony Blair, Brown has sought to have it both ways with people.  He should heed the words of Blair 'that you car'nt please people all of the time'.

Brown would of had to have said he would have done the same thing about Iraq. I heard something about Blunkett, Beckett, and Clarke
