Vote Benn and listen carefully to Cruddas

I have long declared my support for Hilary Benn - for me he is someone who embodies the core values of our movement and will help the party to reconnect with its grassroots support.

However, having met and listened to Jon Cruddas I am of the view that not only does he talk a good game he is also someone who can help us move forward as a party and really begin to address some of the core issues around party reform and structure.

I urge you to listen carefully to what Jon has to say - whatever the outcome of the deputy leadership contest he is, I hope and trust, someone who will be around to help shape the future direction of our party and our nation.

Listen to what Jon has learnt fighting the BNP and about provding decent public services provided by the public sector and if you agree give him your first pref.

Re: Vote Benn and listen carefully to Cruddas (#2)

Hilary is a really nice guy who is personally charming and will make a great Foreign Secretary he will be getting my second preference.

Re: Vote Benn and listen carefully to Cruddas (#3)

Good post Mike. It just seems to me that Benn is a man whose talents would be best used elsewhere and will be guaranteed a prominent position in the Brown Cabinet, whereas Cruddas will actually make something dynamic out of the deputy leadership role. So I would say 'Vote Cruddas, and Let's Hope Brown makes Benn Foreign Secretary' (assuming Benn doesn't win the DLship).

Re: Vote Benn and listen carefully to Cruddas (#4)

I would shard the views of the comment posters here. Cruddas 1, possibly Benn 2. I like Blears for the no 2 spot but am open to persuasion...

Re: Vote Benn and listen carefully to Cruddas (#5)

Yes, I agree entirely. Cruddas for deputy and Benn at the foreign office. Benn is too Brownite in my opinion to provide any counterweight at all to Brown's ideas on the NEC. The party needs somebody who will keep Brown in touch with reality (and he needs all the help he can get, seeing as this leadership 'election' fiasco has made him look like an imbecile). Benn has made some interesting noises about the War on Terror and he has a great reputation as International Development Secretary. He would make a great foreign secretary, but a mediocre deputy leader.

I have listened carefully to Cruddas. That's why I'm not voting for him. Weasel words on democracy then he takes it away from the grassroots .No thanks.
