What is loyalty?

What is loyalty? Those who consider themselves 'loyalists', say that voting with the whip is loyalty. Loyalists at the moment show disdain for the more Ian Mikardo or Dennis Skinner minded people of the Labour Party. But isn't loyalty being loyal to your convictions? To those who have said on this website that MP's should have voted with the Government on issues like Iraq because of loyalty to Labour, would you have voted against EEC entry in 1971?

Re: What is loyalty? (#1)

I'm a firm supporter of British membership of the EU in principle (and former member of Britain in Europe), but I would have voted against membership in 1971 because the terms Heath had negotiated were NBG.
