A stark message for Gordon Brown

Last night was a poor result.

Labour has a proud tradition in Eurovision. Since the start of the competition in 1956, every Labour Prime Minister has overseen a British winner (Harold Wilson did it twice).

Winning Eurovision in 1997 was the icing on the cake following Blair’s first election victory.

Gordon Brown must deliver a win if he is to be taken seriously as a Labour Prime Minister.

Yes, the former Eastern Bloc won 1, 2 and 3.A sharp turn to the left?

Re: A stark message for Gordon Brown (#2)

ooookaaaaay........... Mind you the tactical voting is quite shocking, seeing as now how every country can vote, meaning Greece always end up getting at least 12 points, The Balkans vote for each other, As do the Scandinavians, and the Eastern Bloc etc. etc.

Re: A stark message for Gordon Brown (#3)

Are you proposing a move to Qualified Majority Voting?

Re: A stark message for Gordon Brown (#4)

heh?

Re: A stark message for Gordon Brown (#9)

Now that's an idea...Make Eurovision an official part of the EU with votes using QMV. That would mean that the bigger countries get more of a say (ie UK, France and Germany), and it would make Europe seem more cool =) Although saying that, Eurovision is so tacky it's beyond a joke.

Re: A stark message for Gordon Brown (#5)

If Gordon wants us to win Eurovision, he needs to encourage Yugoslavia to get back together again!

Re: A stark message for Gordon Brown (#6)

possibly the CIS as well.

Re: A stark message for Gordon Brown (#10)

Or the nations and regions of the UK to all enter the competition seperately so that we can vote for each other.

Re: A stark message for Gordon Brown (#11)

Can't see the Scots or Welsh voting for England somehow!

Re: A stark message for Gordon Brown (#12)

But can see are lovely neighbours across the channel giving Scotland some points.

Re: A stark message for Gordon Brown (#7)

The real question is how we propose to be tough on Scooch and tough on the causes of Scooch.

Re: A stark message for Gordon Brown (#8)

Juvenal, to be fair, GB hadn't won an election or anything and he's not exactly an incoming PM just yet, so he hasn't had the chance to show what an EU-luvvie he will be either. That said, what is the exact correlation between UK winning and recent Labour election wins, apart from Hurricane Katrina and the Big Waves.
