Re: Deputy Race: Supporters Update (#1)

Bob Marshall-Andrews backing Hain!!!!!!

Re: Deputy Race: Supporters Update (#2)

It's clear that the Deputy election isn't really going to be about policies. There are Campaign Group MPs for Hain and Harman, and will presumably be some for Cruddas too. I can't see there being three left-wing campaigns, so people are clearly envisaging the deputy leadership to be all about other things. All the more reason why there needs to be a leadership election where we can have a debate about policy.

Re: Deputy Race: Supporters Update (#3)

For some reason, I can't reply to posts - but this is a follow on to doctordunc's above: But even if Meacher or McDonnell get enough nominations, there won't be a 'contest of policies' because most people in this party are simply unwilling to even contemplate a shift to the left. Meacher or McDonnell can shout their policies til they're blue in the face - it will make no difference, it will be like talking to a brick wall when talking to the Labour party. Either one of them who gets the nominations, will just end up making a fool of themselves against Brown.

Re: Deputy Race: Supporters Update (#4)

No, please, no MM and McD here too! Re the supporters lists. Blears one is probably the most predictable. I can't spot any surprises there. Hain's and Harman's ones are more diverse. Harman goes from Cabinet Ministers to Campaign Groupers. And Hain managed to pull together Shawn Woodward and Ronnie Campbell and Bob Marshall Andrews with McAvoy.

Re: Deputy Race: Supporters Update (#5)

...Which goes to show that MPs have no better clue than the rest of us mere mortals whether Hain is all of a sudden a passionate life-long left-winger or is just a pseudo-leftie pandering quite pathetically to the knee-jerk reactionaries because he thinks that's what the grassroots of the Labour Party is all about. Actually, come to think of it, the rest of us do know the answer to that: it's the latter. How sad that so many MPs are suckered by it and believe that's in the best interests of the party and the wider public.

Re: Deputy Race: Supporters Update (#6)

Can someone please explain to me why all these MPs are interested in the deputy job? Surely Prescott was in the back waters for years holding this position. A rotten job with all the work and none of the kudos. Or is it a cushy well paid number?

Re: Deputy Race: Supporters Update (#7)

Prescott fulfilled a different role - most of these guys can expect a proper cabinet position.
