Kettering parliamentary selection result

Phil Sawford was selected as the Labour candidate at last night's selection meeting in Kettering.  Sawford won on the first round, with 77 first preferences, out of 82 votes cast.

Boundary changes make the seat a marginal Labour seat again.  Tory MP, right winger Philip Holobone has not made much of a mark in the constituency and has a very low profile.  However, the Tories have huge physical and financial resources in this constituency, much of this linked to the strength of the local hunt.  Kettering's formidable Labour campaign team, which has won the national Best Practice award for campaigning, will put up a real fight, and with a fair wind nationally, this could be a Labour gain.
