Neil Kinnock was on excellent form in his conversation with Michael White for the Fabian Society last night, ranging across Labour history and his life in politics, as well as the leadership, health, education and the House of Lords. But his comments on Trident are generating most interest.



Neil Kinnock was on excellent form in his conversation with Michael White for the Fabian Society last night, ranging across Labour history and his life in politics, as well as the leadership, health, education and the House of Lords.

His comments on Trident are generating interest ahead of the Commons vote. Kinnock joins his former deputy Roy Hattersley and his ex-Chief of Staff Charles Clarke who have also argued that the situation today is different to that of the Cold War.

Could Neil Kinnock be about to make a comeback? He's younger than Ming......Just a thought.
Seriously, the voices of reason are  lining up against Trident. Pity the PL are such a supine  lot

I think there are plenty of them who are against unilateral disarmourment - after all, that position won out (in the end) within the party, so there must have been quite a few people who supported it

Well Kinnock is great guy. He criticised what he called `tribelets of retainers' around Number 10 and Number 11 Downing Street, arguing that mostly through anonymous briefings had given an impression of `instability and internecine warfare between the principals which does not reflect the reality'. I vote for his position cause the governement is pushing us to do opposite acts.

What a shame Kinnock couldn't be on such 'excellent form' when he was leader.

I see JR, presumably if Kinnock had been on "excellent form" in 1987 and 1992 we would have won.

Those of us who give the man credit for dragging us back to electability are obviously wide of the mark.

JR - edward's right.

Kinnock's views might not be my cup of tea, but the man saved the Labour Party from destruction. The long road back to electability had to start with someone of his views - someone of ours couldn't have done it 83-92.

Whats was it he said to Blair on the night of the 1997 victory? "Well Bloody Done Lad!"? He's a good man.

I'd shake his hand.
