The Times puts "Johnson ahead in deputy battle"

There's an article on the deputy leadership in today's Times that puts Johnson ahead in deputy battle. In the interests of transparency I need to declare that I'm on Alan's campaign team (more here).

The Times says: "Mr Johnson's candidacy receives a significant boost today with the public support of seven respected ministers, representing different wings of the party"

The ministers are James Purnell (Pensions), Malcolm Wicks (Science), Ivan Lewis (Health), Phil Hope (Education), Tom Harris (Railways), Beverley Hughes (Children) and Gerry Sutcliffe (Prisons), who is managing Mr Johnson's campaign.

Alan (#1)

Alan is an excellent candidate who understands real people. He is a real person from a working class family rather than some little person who wrote fabian pamplets about new paradigms.

Re: Alan (#2)

All true - but Fabian tracts do have their place.

* awaits someone to make a quip about their place being in the bin *

Fabian self-promotion (#3)

Come on!

These pamphlets are a waste of rainforest. You get odious little jerks elbowing their way to the front to get to write these.

They pick stupid topics like "citizenship in the new milenium-the challenges ahead" yawn. Loads of old verbose cobblers saying nothing much. They love to redefine things and they get off on outlining new visions-third ways, where its not either or but rather competition complementing the state. Loads of crap that sounds worthy but no substance whatsoever.

The sort of people who are slightly lower down in the pecking order have to suck up to the authors, so they massage their ego's by praising the rubbish written.  Take glass houses amazing comment the other day when he claimed to have joined the labour party in 1994 after having read david milibands pisspoor introduction to a book of silly essays. If glass house is 24 in 2007 (as he claims) theres no way he could have joined the Labour Party in 1994 (when he would have been 11). This sums it up. The Fabians are just a vehicle for self promotion. If people like miliband are daft enough to believe glass house its sad. I suspect miliband can see people like glass for what they are-little public schoolboys who will do anything to get a bit of patronage. Glass should wise up that people in the Labour Party despise his sort.

Re: Fabian self-promotion (#4)

When did I say that I joined the Labour party in 1994? I didn't and I have never posted that I did.

When did I say that I was 24 in 2007? I'm not and I have never posted that I am.

When did I say I'm a public schoolboy? I'm not and I have never posted that I am.

If katie (or anyone else) can drag up any posts in which I make any of those claims, then please let me know.

* laughs at katie *

Re: Fabian self-promotion (#8)

Katie? Going to bother replying?

Re: Alan (#5)

Well, well, well, my old mucker the "PR Guru" is backing Johnson.

As a Hilary supporter I don't intend to diss the Education Secretary but I will point out that on integrity, intellect, the capacity to reach out both across the party and beyond and on the all important question of future leadership Hilary is the much better candidate.

Also at this point, given my personal opinion of the likes of Mr Coates and his fellow journo's I would take any Times political articule with a large pinch of salt (that idiocy of comparing the MP for Newcastle under Lyme's travel expenses with someone from Tyne and Wear is a classic)...

One things for sure its either your or my pick that will provail.

Re: The Times puts "Johnson ahead ... (#6)

I think Alan Johnson has gone of the boil. He wanted to go for leader, but that stalled and made him look weak. He's been very low profile recently. I just don't see it somehow.

Re: The Times puts "Johnson ahead ... (#9)

odious, obnoxious, gutless, cowardly, creepy....and a chicken!!!!!

Re: The Times puts "Johnson ahead ... (#10)

Yawn. Moderators - I think it's obvious now that 'anzibel' is trolling.

Can we remove these comments please? It's getting in the way of proper debate.
