Boris Johnson plans for bus fare hikes

Fresh from his confusing comments about under-18s free bus travel, Boris Johnson has come out with a busses plan that would see fares hiked from 90p to £1.50.

Boris Johnson has backed plans for open platform busses calling it “the shape of the future”.  The BBC has details HERE.

Boris Johnson clearly thinks backing these busses will get him some votes, but the problem is that it would cost a huge amount.  Simply paying for the conductors needed for this type of bus would require £600million, according to London Busses.  And that’s before the new busses are even paid for.

The cost of this would mean a fare hike of 60p for Oyster card users, making £1.50 under a Johnson Mayoralty, rather than 90p with Ken.  But if Boris wanted to keep fares down, he could always put the cost on to council tax payers – at a price of over £200 for a family with a band D house.

Boris Johnson might be a gift as a rent-a-quote for journalists, but it’s not persuading anyone he's a good candidate for Mayor, let alone fit to actually do the job.
