The Unholy Coalition - the SNP & the Tories

An article in today's Scotsman talks about increasing co-operation between the Tories and the SNP and next month Cameron and Salmond are planning to meet up to discuss their new 'union'.

Next week the SNP is removing the bar against a potential coalition with the Tories - something that just a few months ago would have seemed unimaginable.

What this proves is that both Salmond and Cameron are completely without principle. They'd both push their grannies down the stairs if it meant they got the power they both longed for.

Salmond wants to work with the Scottish Tories as it will keep his minority government afloat and he knows that a Tory victory in a general election will make it more likely that Scotland will break away completely. But I wonder if the Scottish electorate will be so approving of seeing the Tories back in government again after what they did to Scotland last time they were in power?

And of course, the Tories want the SNP to succeed as it makes life difficult for Labour. But secretly, I think we all know this is another sign that the Tories actually want the UK to split up as they think they'll perform better in England alone.

So we are seeing the beginnings of an 'unholy coalition' between Scottish Nationalists and the Conservative & Unionist party. I hope Labour show them up for this. The message should be in Scotland "Vote SNP, get Tory" and across Britain "Vote Tory and break up our country".

Re: The Unholy Coalition (#1)

Am I wrong in thinking that until recently 'principled' Labour was in coalition with the Liberal Democrats?  Do they come under the category 'principled' as well, then?

Re: The Unholy Coalition (#2)

And what is wrong with Labour being in coalition with the LibDems exactly?

Re: The Unholy Coalition (#3)

Do correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not too sure that Labour and Lib Dems are singing from the same hymnsheet.  Judging by what the Prime Minister says about them in Parliament and elsewhere, what Labour MPs say about them, what labour activists on this site say about them...just strikes me as odd that Labour activists and politicians describe them as the most despicable people on the planet, yet are happy to govern with them.

If you're right in saying there's nothing wrong, you might want to have a word with the chaps commenting on this thread:

Re: The Unholy Coalition (#4)

You've completely missed the point of the post. I'm not arguing against coalitions full stop - I understand that under PR, coalitions need to be formed.

But there is most certainly more in common between Labour and the LibDems then there is between the Conservative and Unionist party and the Scottish Nationalist Party.

If you cannot see the hypocrisy of this then there's no helping you.
