Clear red water in Mayoral election
Boris Johnson spoke at what the BBC called “a power lunch” of “the bosses of some of the big house building companies” in London yesterday.
In his speech he attacked Ken Livingstone for setting a target for affordable housing to be built in the capital. He said that as Mayor he wouldn’t get “hung up” about how new affordable houses were built.
Our favourite moment came in the BBC London interview on yesterday evening though. In the space of about 20 seconds, he managed to go from saying that he was against setting a target for building affordable housing, then said he could see the advantage to setting a target, then he saying that he didn’t want a target across all the boroughs.
The interviewer made the point that Boris’ speech had gone down well for being funny – but also because the building firms are keen on less regulation. That sums Boris up – his jokes have a nasty policy sting in the tail for ordinary Londoners who need affordable homes to be built as soon as possible.
The interview is online HERE, but only until this evening.
