campaigntv.org gets the BNP all hot and bothered

campaigntv.org update from gez.sagar@campaigntv.org

Campaigntv got its first nasty attack today.  The BNP have spotted our video about how they were wiped out in the West Midlands at the May elections.  Looks like we touched a nazi nerve.

The film  - How We Beat the BNP - tells the story of Labour's successful campaign to stop the BNP gaining more seats in Sandwell.  In 2006 they won three seats, bringing the BNP group on the council up to four. This year they reckoned to make further gains and stood in 15 seats.

In the end not one of those 15 candidates got elected. Labour majorities in the target seats were up by more than ten times over. The BNP vote dropped by a third.

Labour got support from the Hope Not Hate campaign,  the Daily Mirror, local teachers and religious leaders.

A BNP supporters' website - is it called stormbreaker? - calls everyone in the film nasty names and asks the devilish question: was trade union money behind the films?   Er, yes. There was financial and campaign backing from the trade union Amicus-Unite and its local members. Union members hate the BNP and everything it stands for, and are happy for their money to be spent keeping them out of the town hall.

Our film  - How We Beat the BNP - is a step by step guide to running a joint, united campaign against the nazis.

Take a look, and tell us what you think of our other films too - campaigntv.org

Re: Nick Griffin (#1)

Bad news for Essex. Nick Griffin is standing in Thurrock. It was in my local paper Tonight. It states: Mr Griffin made it clear he would not tolerate multiculturalism and coffee coloured races as they do in the US.

I feel sickened that he is even setting foot in Essex let alone standing here. Why don't he go back to where he comes from?

The Labour MP for Thurrock is Andrew MacKinlay. He is quoted as saying: I will not trim or bend, nor have any compromise in the face of those who peddle bigotry or intolerance. I will do all in my power to fight racism and xenophobia before and after the election.
