Oh Peter....!

Guido Fawkes publishes here Peter Hain's entire deputy leadership campaign strategy.

Not comfortable with the number of paid Labour Party staff and union officials named as being on his campaign team. Shouldn't they all be barred from helping and they are administering the election process?

Re: Oh Peter....! (#1)

Amusing to know which MPs aren't willing to go public with their support - always the ones you've got to keep an eye on!

Re: Oh Peter....! (#2)

but some of them have actually gone public anyway (ex Jessica Morden).
Some MPs named in that document are backing other candidates (Gordon Banks has came out for Hilary Benn)

Re: Oh Peter....! (#11)

If you take the talented Mr Woolas out of that list it starts to look like he won't make the ballot.

Re: Oh Peter....! (#4)

Is it coincidence there was a a deluge of negative comments on his Progress article this weekend (http://www.progressonline.org.uk/Magazine/article.asp?a=1544#comments) - the weekend when Sinn Fein signed up finally to support policing? It's almost enough to think there is something spookey going on!

Re: Oh Peter....! (#5)

the real revelation is the number of Labour Party staff who are members of Peter Hain's campaign team. This is part of a worrying trend. Over the past few years there have been growing suspicions that employees of the Party have been playing an increasingly partisan role in the internal decision making processes. Now we appear to have proof. These are the people who should be overseeing the Deputy Leadership election not organising for one of the candidates.
How many other members of staff are members of rival campaign teams?
Presumably we can now expect some action from the General Secretary.

Re: Oh Peter....! (#6)

No "revelation" to me. Anyone who has attended Party Conference recently   knows full well  that the party apparatchiks are NOT impartial. There's been loads of jerrymandering, too, at NEC hustings.  So it's good this is in the  public domain. But not good news for Hain  who, to be honest, is stil more likely  to get my vote than hyped-up Cruddas. His work in Northern Ireland alone  does it for me.One wonders  who is  stitching him up?

Re: Oh Peter....! (#7)

Um, the two previous threads seem to be asserting that partiality by Labour staff is a revelation since new Labour came into existence.

Labour Head Office staff have ALWAYS been operators, trying to engineer the result they or their bosses regard as in the party's best interests - and often grossly inappropriately too.

What's new about this is that I very much doubt Hain is the leadership choice for Deputy - but that doesn't make their conduct any more legitimate or appropriate.

Re: Oh Peter....! (#8)

That is an excellent point.  Nobody would be shocked for an instant to hear party workers were helping with Gordon Brown's campaign (though they should be)

Re: Oh Peter....! (#9)

Should be shocked, that is!

Re: Oh Peter....! (#10)

I see from today's Guardian that Hain's staff have form on this kind of thing.  The Ghost of Richard Darlington lives on.
