After devolution: next steps for democratic reform

Keynote speaker: Rt Hon Peter Hain MP, Secretary of State for Wales and Northern Ireland

6.30pm, Wednesday 24th January 2007.

Council Room, One Great George Street, London, SW1.

2007 will be a crucial year for devolution, with elections to the Scottish and Welsh Assemblies as well as the likely restoration of power to the North Ireland Assembly. It is therefore an ideal time to explore and evaluate devolution in the UK and look ahead to the challenges and opportunities for devolved assemblies and their citizens.

As the UK's leading localist think tank, New Local Government Network is delighted to host a keynote lecture from Rt Hon Peter Hain MP, Secretary of State for Wales and Northern Ireland who will evaluate not just the political impact of devolution, but the effect it has had on individual citizens and their relationship with public services.

He will also outline his progressive vision for devolution and constitutional reform and discuss how these democratic institutions can connect more effectively with their citizens.

Attendance to the event is free but on a first come first serve basis. The event will take place on Wednesday 24th January 2007 at 6.30pm in the Council Room, One Great George Street, London, SW1. To confirm your attendance contact me at james.hulme@nlgn.org.uk.
