Diary of a Labour Activist

St Athan, good for the Vale, good for Wales

Dear Friends,
Well this week we got the news we have all been waiting for. The new Staff Training College is coming to our area in the Vale of Glamorgan which will help the people in St Athan after the loss of DARA. We in the local party know just how hard both John Smith our MP and Jane Hutt our AM, have worked to get this investment into Wales. Now we have control of the council too we can have a truly 'joined up' approach to the challenges that will come.
As to the problems in Social Services, the new Labour led Cabinet have already identified ways of doing things in a different way, for example, at the moment there is no Director of Social Services, it's lumped in with other sectors. This is one thing that will be changed, also the new budget has to be agreed and our colleague in the cabinet have been working night and day, literally, to find a new approach to the problem that vulnerable people all over the Vale are facing. It will not be easy but workers in the council are starting to see that together we can pull this around.
