Barack Obama

I've written a peice on my new blog arguing that we should invite the Democratic senator Barack Obama to address next year's Labour Party conference. How would one go about suggesting this to the people who are responsible for organising the event?

Re: Barack Obama (#1)

I'd rather have Ségoléne Royal - but I see what you mean.

Re: Barack Obama (#2)

She could give Gordon some tips on how to smile convincingly!

Re: Barack Obama (#3)

Write to Democrats Abroad saying that you are an admirer of Barack. If you haven't already read his book, then you certainly should.

Royal would be brilliant but although she's setting the place alight, there's no guarantee she'll be the Socialist candidate yet, let alone the President.

Re: Barack Obama (#4)

Is Obama really serious about standing for President?

Re: Barack Obama (#5)

I saw Obama at the Democrats' Presidential Convention in 2004. He's supposed to be brilliant and charismatic. I say don't believe the hype. This is no Martin Luther King; in fact he isn't even a Rev. Jeese Jackson. I think he's being talked up because he's the only moderate African American in a senior position the Democrats have.

Re: Barack Obama (#6)

Nothing wrong with being the "only moderate African American in a senior position the Democrats have"! Except that maybe there should be more!

I can't really see there ever being another Martin Luther King really! Can you?

And as for Rev. Jesse Jackson, there isn't a need for anything like him!

Re: Barack Obama (#7)

Clinton managed to bomb at the Democrats convention once so I would read to much into it. I've seen him speak on the internet an he does ok

Of the polling that I've seen about him people see him as to inexperienced to see him as a presidential candidate in 2008 but they like him and he could be a good VP candidate this time.
