Profile of John McDonnell in Guardian

Some of us who are supporting John McDonnell in the leadership election have been disappointed by the limited amount of press the campaign has received - as it will be with the help of the press that the sort of large-scale debate we want to see can take place.

Readers of Labour Home may well be interested in the article here and discover some things they didn't know about John McDonnell!

Re: Profile of John McDonnell in Guardian (#1)

Some of us who aren't supporting John McDonnell in the leadership election have been disappointed by the adverse amount of attention the campaign has received on LabourHome.

He's on the looney left, he won't even get enough nominations. Wake up and smell the coffee - it's not going to happen.

lol

Re: Profile of John McDonnell in Guardian (#3)

In reply to Anonymous, everyone is free to talk about their preferred leaders/candidates as much as they like. McDonnell has a fairly small but very vocal group campaigning for him, and so you are always going to hear a lot about him on Labourhome. If you have a preferred candidate, speak up.

Re: Profile of John McDonnell in Guardian (#4)

The problem is that threads to discuss candidates other than McDonnell have been constantly hijacked by McDonnellites with cries of "OH MY GOD! THIS THREAD IS ABOUT DECIDING BETWEEN CANDIDATES OF THE RIGHT - WHERE'S THE DEBATE" and have then been turned into discussions on nuclear disarmourment.

Re: Profile of John McDonnell in Guardian (#5)

Well any thread about the leadership is likely to attract some comment about McDonnell at this point in time: he is the only declared candidate.  The idea that threads are 'hijacked' seems rather bizarre.  If somebody replied on this thread with a profile of John Denham or Alan Johnson I wouldn't see that as hijacking - just entering into a discussion.

Re: Profile of John McDonnell in Guardian (#6)

His people have been briefing the press that they have 41 of the 44 needed during conference.

Any of the John4Leader team got an idea of when they're likely to be unveiling names?

Re: Profile of John McDonnell in Guardian (#7)

Release the names now and shoot themselves right in the foot I dont think so, it will be as and when they need to release supporters names I suspect! lol

If any names were released now they'd receive the full weight of the nominate Brown or your career is over crap for months.

Re: Profile of John McDonnell in Guardian (#8)

Yes - I can even think of some evidence of the sort of pressure people come under appearing recently in the blogosphere...

Re: Profile of John McDonnell in Guardian (#9)

I was just curious as to the when, I wasn't suggesting you were about to tell us the who right here and now!

I'm a bit surprised that you think John McDonnell is going to get nominated by anyone who'd be bothered about their career though. Are there going to be some shock names on the list? The mind boggles!
