Brown 1 Byers 0

Is Brown finally showing what he can do when he puts his mind to it.

I know it's a story from yesterday, but I was going to post something about it last night until I got sidetracked.

Was anyone else impressed with how well Brown hit back against Byers' inheritance tax madness and the Tories' stamp duty stuff?

Brown has been awful PR-wise since the General Election. Yesterday's rebuttal was damn professional - attacked on tax (Byers trying to cast Brown as some kind of 80s throwback), he turned the whole thing around and slapped down Byers, casting him as the 80s throwback trying to promote divisions/factionalism. Genius.

The best quote was (referring to Byers), "There are a few mavericks, but put them to one side" - ouch!

Is Brown finally showing what he can do when he puts his mind to it. The story certainly cheered me up yesterday.

I must say that I don't normally think much of Gordon Brown, but he has come out of this looking considerably more Labour than Byers.

I just wish Byers would shut up - he's embaressing himself and the party with his Thatcherite views.

Re: Brown 1 Byers 0 (#2)

otware - we tend to disagree on almost everything, but I'm 100% with you here.

The abolition of inheritance tax is abhorrently right wing.
