Don't blame the bloggers, blame Prescott

It's no use blaming malicious Tory Bloggers, Conservative HQ, or Brown's camp, for the mire John Prescott is in.  It's all John's fault.  Mudslingers soon go out of business if there isn't any mud.

Clearly John Prescott is up to his ears in the Anschutz Scandal, and clearly he has had numerous affairs with women in and around the Westminster world, so now is the time for him to step down before more damage is done to the government.

Now I know the Tory Bloggers are after a scalp, they know they have the momentum (and not just politically; I'm sure this scandal has boosted their profile no end), and they can certainly smell blood; but they are, at the end of the day, right.  Prescott is a promiscuous bumbling embarrassment to the Labour Party.

If I had multiple affairs in my workplace I would be fired.  Let's get this straight once and for all: Prescott, as an MP, is paid from the treasury purse.  He is an employee of the country, as was Tracey Temple, as is the other alleged woman.  They are guilty of bringing their respective offices into disrepute.  This is not, as Labour MP's never tire of claiming, just a family matter.

Also it is increasing clear that his office was involved in the decisions (directly or indirectly), as to where "Super Casinos" will be built and to whom they be licensed to.

The internal leadership conflict within the cabinet, and the reluctance of Blair to lose his deputy, should not influence standards. Prescott must go.

Re: Don't blame the bloggers, blame Prescott (#1)

with respect to the "other alleged woman" this is simply not true

Re: Don't blame the bloggers, blame Prescott (#2)

Surely he would have denied it on BBC Radio 4?

Surely one of the Paxman at the BBC would have said that he knows nothing when countered by Iain Dale et al?

Everyone inside Westminster keeps silent, but never going on record to deny it.  It is on record that he was indecent to Austin Mitchell's wife.

Re: Don't blame the bloggers, blame Prescott (#3)

Ooops

Surely one of the Paxman at the BBC would have said that he knows nothing when countered by Iain Dale et al?

Changed that paragraph slightly and then didn't check the syntax.

Should be: -

Surely Paxman at the BBC would have said that he knows nothing when countered by Iain Dale et al?

Re: Don't blame the bloggers, blame Prescott (#4)

I suspect the difficulty is a denial of further affairs, as to deny one particular allegation - the one that is not true but is the subject of internet rumour - is by implication confirming that there have been other affairs

Re: Don't blame the bloggers, blame Prescott (#5)

the clear denial is in Simon Walters piece in the Mail on Sunday this morning.  "Asked if she had had an affair with Mr Prescott, Mis Winterton said 'absolutely not'. "

Re: Don't blame the bloggers, blame Prescott (#6)

Tygerland,
I completly agree. If Prescott feels anything for the party he should disappear as quietly as possible and as far away from an election as possible. I believe it will do Labour no harm to have complete renewal. Blair, Prescott, Brown, Hewitt, Jowell, McCartney, Falconer, Levi, Blunkett, Kelly, Byers, Millawonk, Milburn, Mandleson, and Clarke (too name a few) are all compromised. If Labour were able to present a radical centrist and ultimately liberal front Cameron would have nowhere to go. Not only that but Labour would be better at delivering socially responsible radical policies, which I believe are desired by a large swathe of the electorate.
It's time to face up to the fact that people aren't happy not because they are wrong but because a lot has gone ary. A re-read of the 1997 manifesto is needed.
A few new faces, a new culture, and a rethink in manner of direction are badly needed. Or else Cameron and co will be in power for a very long time (barring the great Tory self destruct instinct).
