Tory gets it wrong, nobody corrects him.

I find it difficult to watch question time. When it starts to get too 'deep' I find I just get frustrated. There is a certain cut off point, and this was it for me last night, and here's why.

'He told BBC One's Question Time he had no evidence but the timing of the verdict was "deeply suspect".'

The words of one Malcolm Rifkind.

Maybe he should get his facts right before he comes onto national television and further makes a mockery of the facts thrown onto the public regarding Iraq.

Firstly, SADDAMS lawyers had also called for it to be postponed.

Secondly, it was delayed last month because of requests from the tribunal reviewing the stacks of evidence.

Indeed just a couple of days before the verdict the chief prosecutor was saying it might be delayed further.

If you think all these people were trying to help out the american government, you are subscribing to baseless conspiracy theories. The Iraqi government has been plenty combatitive to the Americans.

Not to mention, it would be a huge risk that could have backfired. Massive violence was expected, that thankfully didn't occur, but what if it had? I'd imagine another couple of seats would be lost for the GOP.

Saddam verdict timing 'suspect' (BBC)

Former Foreign Secretary Malcolm Rifkind has accused the US of delaying the verdict in Saddam Hussein's trial to coincide with the mid-term polls.

He told BBC One's Question Time he had no evidence but the timing of the verdict was "deeply suspect".

The former president of Iraq was this week sentenced to death by hanging for crimes against humanity.

The White House has dismissed similar accusations as "preposterous" and said the Iraqi judges determined the timing.

Rifkind is the last person in Parliament I would ever accuse of being a conspiracy nut. He merely expressed that it was "deeply suspect"

ie it looked bad. And of course it looked bad. However you're arguments are fairly compelling to me. But please dont get on some wild anti Beeb rant. And dont tell me that MPs are barred from expressing something that plenty of people were thinking.

I have to say I did agree with Sir Malcolm Rifkind point on Thursday, the timing was rather suspect and he was entitled to express his view.  He did say that he has nothing to back up his claim but was mealy expressing his own view, what's wrong with that?  It would be nice if a Labour panellist did that from time to time on QT?

I would say that Question Time is very frustrating to watch, every week it's a Government bashing session I guess with Labour being in power for 10 years it's going to be blamed for everything and it's inevitable.  The frustrating thing is the quality of Labour Ministers that appear on Question Time is simply awful. People like Blears, Bradshaw, and Armstrong do an awful job in defending the Government.  The only decent performance by a Labour person on QT in recent weeks was by Charles Clarke and he is not even a Minister any more.

Also when will Gordon Brown appear on Question Time?  I simply can't recall the last time he graced the show, is it beneath the Chancellor to talk to ordinary folk?

Ordinary folk on Question Time?

Next you'll be saying people posting on LabourHome are normal!

Re: Tory gets it wrong, nobody corrects him. (#4)

My point is, not him expressing himself, but do you not think its dangerous that we have a politician fanning this conspiracy?

Public perception of the American government is low enough already without pushing baseless accusations as he did. That should be left to the tabloid media. What I'm trying to say is, I expect a little better from our politicians.
