Tory A List - who would not have made it in 2005?

Here's a thought. Who would probably not now be a Tory MP had the A list been in existence for the 2005 election? Who would have made it onto the A List without a problem?

I will start us off:

Non A listers:

Mark Pritchard MP for the Wrekin - backed David Davis from the start and asked Ken Clarke (or was it Cameron) about recreational drug use at the hustings for the Tory leadership.
Daniel Kawzcynski MP for Shrewsbury. My opponent in 2005 - he is very tall but...

Definite A listers:

Michael Gove MP for Surrey Heath - bright, articulate and shrewd.
Ed Vaizey MP for Wantage - perhaps one of the most able of the 2005 intake.

Re: Tory A List - (#1)

Philip Davies (Shipley) and David Davies (Monmouth) don't look like moderniser Cameroonites.

Btw, everytime I read/hear about Kawzcynski, he mentions he's tall...does he talk about something else, by mistake?!

Re: Tory A List - (#2)

Adam Afriye (Windsor), Nick Herbert (Arundel), Shailesh Vara (North West Cambridgeshire), Sir Malcolm Rifkind (Kensington and Chelsea), Nick Hurd (Ruislip-Northwood), Nadine Dorries (Mid Bedfordshire) and Theresa Villiers (Chipping Barnet) would have probably made the A List.

Re: Tory A List - (#3)

Why is Rifkind in there as well. Surely a yesterday's man?
It doesn't pay to think retrosectively. Getting a seat is 80% chance and 20% merit.

Re: Tory A List - (#4)

Because I think they would have included it to make it possible for him to re-join the Commons.

They've Howard Flight on the A List afterall.

Re: Tory A List - who would not have made it (#5)

Douglas Carswell (Harwich) wouldn't have been an A-list candidate.
